United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women's Purpose

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Co-Presidents: Edie Hodges & Bev Sloppy

Co-President's Bible Verse for 2011

Acts 20:24
"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work the Lord Jesus gave me."

2011 Theme
"Finding Peace"

In 1859, The Ladies Aid Society (LAS) was formed to assist in raising funds for a church building. In 1972, Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) was chartered as United Methodist Women (UMW).

Important events of the UMW are the Salad Luncheon and the Soup Supper / Cookie Walk. Circles are also responsible for funeral luncheons, altar flower deliveries to homebound members, bulletin board displays and sponsoring missionaries. The circles’ unit meeting is the first Thursday of each month. The meeting schedule for each circle is listed below. There are a variety of interesting programs at the meetings.

UMW Reading Program runs from July 1 to June 30. A list of approved books is found in the UMW library or from Mary Long. Different plans to choose from are Plan 1 requiring 4 books, Plan 2 with 10 books, Plan 3 with 15 books or Plan 4 with 20 books. Your report of titles is due by June 23. Our purpose is to help enhance, expand and increase your knowledge. A reading program is one of the districts requirements for a strong organization.
